The German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) is providing support to the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Unions Ltd. (NEFSCUN) to enhance the capacity of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOS), facilitate access to financial services for the population, and promote financial literacy. Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Unions Ltd. (NEFSCUN) is the member-based national apex organization of Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS) and their District Unions (DUs). The partnership started in 1st of May 2024. 

This assistance encompasses strategic development initiatives aimed at strengthening the partner institution in various aspects of the financial sector, including capacity building, promoting financial, institutional, and environmental sustainability, and pursuing sustainability objectives for (micro) financial institutions at the sector level.  

Additionally, it entails the integration or enhancement of key financial themes such as Sustainable Finance, Digital Finance, and Entrepreneurship, as well as the development and expansion of skills among qualified personnel in the (micro) financial sector. NEFSCUN remains dedicated to the development, promotion, and reinforcement of its member organizations by supporting SACCOS and District Unions (DUs) in their mission to advance the financial, social, and cultural aspirations of individual community members in accordance with international credit union principles.  

Through its competitive array of products and services, NEFSCUN has extended its reach to 76 districts, serving 3.7 million individuals and annually providing cooperative management training to over 20,000 leaders and staff members. Its efforts not only facilitate formal financial access for the underserved but also equip communities with the necessary tools and techniques to effectively manage their cooperatives using global best practices.
