GreenUp! – An Interactive Simulation for Sustainable Finance

What is GreenUp!?
GreenUp! is an innovative simulation that makes sustainable finance tangible. Developed by Prof. Dr. Tobias Peylo, it combines practical expertise with gamification to create an engaging learning experience for financial institutions or universities for banking and finance.

Why GreenUp!?
Prof. Dr. Tobias Peylo, a recognised expert in sustainable finance with over 15 years of international experience, has advised central banks, financial institutions, and development organisations worldwide, and is known for creating practical tools and training programmes that bridge theory and real-world application. GreenUp! builds on this expertise by integrating real-world challenges into a dynamic simulation, helping participants understand how strategic decisions impact sustainability and financial performance.

How does it work?
Participants take on roles within a fictional bank and compete in a shared market where reputation, pricing, and ESG considerations matter. Every decision influences credit portfolios, risk scores, profit and long-term success—just like in reality.

What will you learn?
GreenUp! helps participants identify ESG risks and opportunities, understand regulatory requirements, and experience how sustainability strategies affect financial results. It also provides insights into transformation management and stakeholder communication.

Key features
The simulation is delivered as a two-day in-person workshop for groups of 9–16 participants. It includes modules on Sustainable Finance, ESG Risk Management, and Transformation Strategies. The design is based on the DSIK tools Sustainable Finance Compass and ESG Risk Radar and covers 16 action fields, from quick wins to ambitious ESG measures, within a realistic credit market scenario.

Why it matters
GreenUp! is more than a training tool—it’s a platform for building capacity in sustainable finance, fostering collaboration, and preparing institutions for the future of banking. By combining theory, practice, and interactive learning, it makes complex ESG topics accessible and actionable.
